THE CARVED CHAIR

Made in collaboration with Linn Kandel for the Take a Seat project in Zürich

«This series of chairs is a homage to swiss traditional wood carving
techniques. More precisely, our inspiration came from different patterns applied on chairs, stools or animal sculptures carved directly into a tree trunk. Different textures representing fur, feathers or plants have been created by hand with a simple repetitive motion.
We decided to use only one tool to create four different patterns. Only the slightly different movements of the sculptor’s hand create the difference in structure. While one can be very light and almost round, another is deeper and longer... This gives each chair it’s own personality although they are all part of the same family.»
